Frequently Asked Questions
Technically, most (if not all) of these questions were never really asked by anyone. So that makes the title a bit of a misnomer. Let's just ignore that.
Q. How was this Recorded?
A. All of the footage was captured using a program called Camtasia. Thanks to Agent Lex for introducing me to the program.
The program allows you to capture the whole screen or just a user-defined section. As you can see, I chose to capture as much information as possible while trying to keep the video size small enough to be manageable. The chat pane was left out for privacy reasons and because it would make the editing much more obvious.
The recorder can be turned on and off with a simple key command. Technically, I could have recorded the whole run front to back, edited it, and presented it as one long video. I chose not to do so because (a) a large bulky file is more difficult to edit and (b) I though that those of you who don't have 2.5 hours to spend watching a video front to back would appreciate having it broken down into more manageable sections.
At times you may find that the frame rate seems really low so the video doesn't look smooth. That's one of the downsides of keeping the file sizes as small as possible.
Q. Can you tell me about the fascinating world of editing?
A. The editing process was done as quickly as possible so I could get everything done and uploaded. There were a lot of bells and whistles available I didn't bother with in the interests of time (captions and audioc commentary come to mind).
Essentially, what I did was cut out a substantial amount of dead time (chatting, playing with Excel, checking the wiki, etc.). The result is 2.5 hous of video from a run that took around 6 hours in reality.
Sometimes you might catch an awkward moment, wuch as when the mouse suddenly darts across the screen or when a screen comes up when it doesn't look like anything was clicked. That's just the effect of my rushed editing.
Q. Is there a text-based log of the run?
A. Not yet. Soon.
Q. Weren't there supposed to be logs posted from the original Team O-DAMN runs?
A. Yes, but the project stalled and I'm not aware of any plans of finishing it. It's a damn shame, because Kaaewen made some kick-ass artwork for it.
Q. Did Bashy record or log his run, too?
A. Unfortunately not.
Q. Why did you wait to eat the pickles rather than rushing to get stomach of steel and eating them all at once? (sent by PelsTurtle)
A. Technically, had I eaten the pickles earlier it might have provided a really small boost and maybe shaved an adventure off of the total. I was worried about pulls, though, and I wanted to hold off on pulling anything until the last possible moment so that I could change my plans at any moment in case of emergency.
Q. Why didn't you buff all of the basic skills, like the trivial skills, empathy, leash, shells, etc. up to 300 from the start. Isn't it a waste of time to buff a little at a time? (also sent in by PelsTurtle)
A. The reason has to do with the way MMJ works. Magical Mystery Juice gives more MP per bottle as your level increases. Had I cast 300 turns of all the non-accordion thief skills right off the bat, I would have used substantially more MMJ (and meat) than if I spaced it out over time. So it gets a bit tedious (for both me and you) to do it that way, but it saves A LOT of meat by doing it that way. Since I had so little meat when the run ended, I guess it paid off.
Q. I don't wanna look through the video to track your pulls and diet. What were they?
A. The pulls were (in no particular order): 3 sticks, 2 sickles, 5 pickles, 2 black loti, 1 grogtini, 1 fence, 3 legend keys, 1 digital key, 1 star crossbow, and 1 wand of nagamar.
The diet was 3 cans of air, 5 pickles, 1 grogtini, and 2 a little sump'm sump'ms.
